Ackroyd and Harvey have created a special limited edition print to support the continued work of The Ash Project.

The image was created as part of their research and development for The Ash Project. The artists undertook a series of experiments in which sections of trunks and branches from a felled ash tree have been transformed through a pyrolysis method (being burnt in an environment without oxygen), which is a process similar to that of making charcoal. These beautiful images show the many colours of the wood as it is transformed, printed on archival paper many viewers have commented that the print appears to be almost 3d.

The print is a striking photograph that has been shown in The Ash Archive in exhibitions across Kent and was selected as part of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2018.

Next Steps for The Ash Project

The Ash Project was a very ambitious Heritage Lottery and Arts Council funded project managed by the Kent Downs AONB. We have plans to continue the work of the project over the next few years, working with both local and national partners to deliver more events, grow our online archive, participate in research and continue to be a hub for information about the disease and ash recovery.
